The fantastic Kate Dickie is the mother who is not there to offer her daughter the comfort she needs. This is a great folk horror chiller, about a high-level executive who heads back to her home town to be looked after by her mother, after she has a breakdown. It's all very WestWorld and for good reason - it's got the same showrunners. Chloë Grace Moretz stars as someone who, while trying to get drugs for her ill mother, finds herself traversing virtual worlds that may well be showing her glimpses of the future. The Peripheral is on the small screen but it does make for a decent adaptation. Willian Gibson is one of the best sci-fi writers of all time, but his books have never worked that well on the big screen. This is a powerful, sinister movie, with two acting masterclasses, that's loosely based on a true story. Neither are who they say they are and the plot thickens from there. It starts with two apparent strangers who meet, Mark (Joel Edgerton) and Henry (Sean Harris). There is a constant sense of dread in The Stranger, a riveting thriller from writer-director Thomas M. Seeing WWI from a young German soldiers point of view is both enlightening and brutal. Good recent movies tv#
